How important are Antioxidants?

How important are antioxidants for our body and what exactly are antioxidants?
In todays world we see antioxidants all over packaging labels and products. But do any of us understand the importance of antioxidants or where they come from? Antioxidants are natural compounds. They can be found in all different types of fruits, vegetables, coffee, and teas.  They are also found in herbs, nuts, and even some natural oils.

Why are antioxidants important?

Antioxidants have many benefits. One of the most common benefits we receive from a strong antioxidant diet is the protection from free radicals. Free radicals are all over our world. Like air pollution, smoke, toxins, viruses, poor food choices and diet. Free radicals can easily lead to diseases, heart issues, and even some cancers.

Antioxidants come to rescue and lessen or even prevent the effects of free radicals. Antioxidants give an extra electron to the nucleus which makes the cell stable again, reducing our risk of disease and improving health.

Our immune systems goal is to identify and destroy what may harm our body. This is where a strong antioxidant diet can make a huge difference.

Weight loss with Antioxidants?

Antioxidants don’t necessarily make you lose weight. Routine exercise and a balanced diet are the most important ways to stay healthy and fit. Foods that are high in antioxidants are putting you on the right track. Here are a few: red berries, grapes, colorful veggies, and fish that are high in omega-3 fatty acids are all incredibly high in antioxidants. I can see a strong case for weight loss if you incorporate these foods into your lifestyle. Go ahead and treat yourself to some dark chocolate! Dark Chocolate has some very powerful antioxidants and can be considered a superfood. Keep in mind it does have fat and sugar.. so limit yourself to 1-2 ounces.

Overall thoughts:

Sticking to a high antioxidant diet improves health. The more quality diet you choose to eat the better. Antioxidants are fighting to keep the junk and disease away. A high antioxidant diet is important for anyone looking to become healthier. From athletes, weight loss goals, to just general health, these foods are very easy to consume. Coffee, fruits, veggies, nuts, and even adding a little dark chocolate into your diet! Cheers to eating healthier and feeling better!
